Job Title: Software Validation Engineer (DACH region) /Test Engineer

Reports to: Software Test Manager (based in UK)

Location: Germany (commutable to Bonn)

Job Purpose:

We are seeking a Software Validation Engineer to support us in the DACH region (Austria, Germany,and Switzerland) to ensure high quality software for our devices by performing software testing activities, reviewing new solutions and providing technical support and analysis.


Main Role and Responsibilities:

  • Perform validation testing on mobile device software releases to ensure correct functionality, performance and stability.
  • Capture logs of failures and pre-analyse errors prior to reporting to R&D for correction.
  • Liaise with engineering teams to ensure issues are promptly resolved.
  • Provide regular reports of testing activities.
  • Test support tools associated with the product.
  • Support customer lab and field testing as needed (some global travel may be required).
  • Liaise with users within the company to collect issues related to functionality and performance and perform necessary tests and analysis to enable resolution of any identified issues.
  • Assist Aftersales team with the resolution of end-user technical queries or errors.
  • Drive continual improvements to test specifications and test solutions.
  • Develop new test cases based on new features or technologies.
  • Ensure test documentation is recorded according to relevant processes.
  • Flash devices with software builds.
  • Assess, implement and maintain 3rd party automated test solutions.


Essential Soft Skills:

  • Self-motivator who can work remotely and with other remote groups
  • Work proactively and use own initiative to resolve problems and improve processes.
  • Excellent communication skills. 
  • Excellent written and spoken English and German language skills.
  • Excellent report writing skills and able to communicate technical issues clearly and concisely.
  • Excellent analytical skills. Must be methodical in their approach to dealing with complex issues.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a high-pressure environment essential.
  • Must have a ‘can do’ attitude and be dynamic and willing to help with many different tasks outside of role description, taking ownership of tasks if required.


Highly Desirable Technical Skills (knowledge or experience of any of the following would be

  • Creating and maintaining test cases using open source test tools such as Cucumber, Appium, Selendroid or MonkeyTalk.
  • Good working knowledge of scripting languages such as Perl,Ruby or Python.
  • Experience of logfile/trace analysis to diagnose problems.
  • A strong knowledge of 2G/3G/4G technologies and mobile device operating systems, platforms and network functionality.
  • In-depth knowledge of Android operating system and of the latest cellular technologies across different handset operating systems.
  • Software development methodologies and the principles of change management.
  • Android App development experience.  
  • Log file analysis.
  • Experience with operator Deutsche Telekom.
